Melody King
Music Education
Melody King has dedicated more than 30 years to music education, inspiring students of all ages through performance, teaching, and arts leadership. Classically trained in violin, viola, cello, and bass, Melody combines a lifelong passion for music with a deep commitment to arts accessibility and community connection. In addition to serving as Director of the SOUNDS Music Arts Program, she is also President of the Sweet Owen Arts Commission, where she continues to champion arts education and creative opportunities throughout Owen County and the surrounding region

Melody King
Melody King has been a music educator for more than 30 years, sharing her passion for music through teaching, performance, and community arts leadership. Classically trained in violin, viola, cello, and bass, she earned her bachelor’s degree from Butler University with a special interest in music education.
Throughout her musical career, Melody has studied with world-renowned artists including Larry Shapiro, Csaba Erdélyi, David Murry, and Bill Grub, as well as Lisa and Davis Brooks. She has performed with the Butler Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Stanley DeRusha and with the Carmel Symphony Orchestra under the baton of David Bowden.
Melody’s experience spans private string instruction, orchestra direction, elementary music education, and early childhood music programs. Through teaching students of all ages, she developed a deep appreciation for the role music plays in building confidence, creativity, and community connection.
In addition to teaching and performing, Melody has been an active member of organizations including MENC, IMEA, AOSA, and ASTA. Today, she continues to advocate for arts education as the Director of the SOUNDS Music Arts Program and President of the Sweet Owen Arts Commission. Her dedication to fostering creativity and expanding access to the arts continues to make a lasting impact throughout Owen County and the surrounding communities. Melody King
