OUR STORY
Art belongs here – in every hand, every town, every season.
Connecting art, community, and nature in the heart of Owen County.
Who We Are
Rooted in community. Inspired by nature. Driven by creativity.
The Sweet Owen Arts Commission (SOAC) is a nonprofit that exists to bring people together through the power of the arts. We connect artists, residents, and local partners from Owen County, Indiana and surroundingfostering creativity that reflects both our natural beauty and community spirit.
We believe that art belongs in every part of daily life—from river trails and historic downtown spaces to school halls and storefront windows.
Why We Exist
SOAC was founded on a simple but powerful idea:
Art should be visible, accessible, and valued by everyone.
In rural communities like ours, access to the arts can often be limited. Our mission is to enrich the cultural life of Owen County by fostering creativity, ensuring access to the arts for everyone, and supporting artists in their growth, expression, and ability to cultivate meaningful collaborations that bring broader opportunities and benefits to the community and area.
Our Journey
Founded in 2024 by a group of local artists and community leaders, SOAC began as a grassroots effort to elevate the creative voices of Owen County.
Milestones:
- Creating artist interest groups
- Laying the groundwork for our digital artist directory
- Received a grant for Murals on the Downtown Spencer crosswalks
We’re just getting started—and we’re building with a purpose.
